This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Reissue/Archive Album of the Year

So many wonderful albums have been dug out of the archives this year to the extent that I am struggling to even know where to begin!

Although I have reviewed downloads, to my eternal shame, they disappear into a cyber mist - Luddite that I am - so my selections are based around those distributors who know where their local post office is and, in these days, that isn't always easy so I understand the convenience of the download option.

Nevertheless, it's always good to have a CD to lovingly caress before you slot it into the machine even though the album notes are nigh indistinguishable to the naked eye. It's even better when they arrive in the form of a 12" piece of vinyl where you can actually read the notes.

My intention was to choose a top ten but, as two of them are 2 x 2 double albums, that would mean Ahmad Jamal and Bill Evans would occupy 8 of the top 10 spots!

So, until I come up with an overall evaluation of the other contenders, I'll name my top Reissue/Archive Album of the Year as Pepper Adams with the Tommy Banks Trio: Live at the Room at the Top. This is baritone playing at the highest level. REVIEW. Lance
