This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Jam session @ the Black Swan part two - Oct. 4

As LL departed in the hope of catching the Lesser-Spotted no. 27 bus to Hebburn, the Black Swan jam session kept on keeping on. Showtime was getting all Misty over something or other, Edgar and Haaruun sought to comfort him, Murray was on keys, the excellent Jacob Egglestone on guitar, JP spelling the Main Man on bass. And then, and then...Newcastle University (non-music) student Fionnula Bradbury got up to sing the Gershwins' Someone to Watch Over Me. Wow! This was what we'd been waiting for! 

Bradbury could be called a 'natural'. A sage observer commented: A diamond in the dust. Ms B was urged to stay on and, with phone in hand (the lyric sheet of her generation), sang Mack the Knife. Timing, phrasing, Ms B has got it. Just imagine if she had the time to hone her undoubted talent...To close, the usual headlong charge, everyone up blowing, this evening on Yardbird Suite. Russell
