This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Entries invited for Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition

My current favourite American singer is Samara Joy although I'm also a fan of Jazzmeia Horn. The two girls have something in common - they are both past winners of the Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition and worthy of the singer the competition was named in honour of.

Entries are now being accepted for this year's competition. It is a truly international event so whether you live in Washington DC or Washington T & W, if think that you're good enough, submit your entry.

The final of the competition takes place at the Victoria Theater, Newark NJ on November 14, 2021, at 3:00pm EST.

Entry closes at  5:00pm EST on Sept. 7, 2021.
