This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Reviewers wanted

Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Preview: Zoë, Paul & Ronnie (July 20)

Thinking about it, Ronnie Scott would more likely than not be amazed by the sheer number of talented British musicians currently plying their trade the length and breadth of the country. Yes, the American 'names' continue to be a big draw, but there is little doubt that many home-grown stars are more than capable of holding their own with all and sundry. Next week two such stars will be holding court at Ronnie Scott's.


The award-winning Zoë Gilby and Paul Edis, 'a major voice in British jazz' (Jazz Journal), are to appear at Ronnie's next Tuesday (July 20) in the Upstairs @ Ronnie's Braziliance series. Starting at seven o'clock, APPJAG winner Zoë will be singing GASbook, bossa and more accompanied by Paul, one of the finest pianists of his generation. Admission is £12. See www.ronniescott.co.uk.
