Like so many bands, Maureen Hall’s Rendezvous Jazz has been side-lined over the past 17 months. However, drummer/vocalist George Davidson informs me that they are under starter’s orders next Saturday (August 7) at the Red Lion, Earsdon (8:00pm – 10:30pm). As I recall, in pre-pandemic times, this was a monthly gig so, presumably it remains so.
The following Friday
(August 13) the band restarts its monthly lunchtime residency at The Monkseaton
Arms (1:00pm - 3:30pm) in, wait for it, Monkseaton. The line-up will feature
vocals by Maureen probably with Gavin Lee on clarinet, Don Fairley on trombone,
John Robinson on bass, George on drums and Malcolm Armstrong on piano. The above photo wasn't taken in either of the pubs but in Durham Cathedral no less!
Good to see more lunchtime venues opening up again - they're the core of the vintage jazz scene. Lance
