Word has just come through of the death of trombonist Paul Mummery. A fine trad/mainstream player who was a regular performer at many of the Whitley Bay Jazz Festivals/Jazz Parties as well as at other UK and European events frequently with Spats Langham and, on one memorable occasion at Whitley Bay, with Cécile McLorin Salvant.
Brian Bennett sent these two photos of Paul taken at the Corner House with the Vieux Carré Jazzmen in October 2002. Brian also remembers him as "one of the greats - wonderful jazz trombonist, vocalist and all-round nice guy. He had the constitution of a horse, too - he once downed a near-full bottle of my Famous Grouse to little or no effect. R.I.P."

Played alongside Paul for years in Spats Langham's Rhythm Boys ( masterminded by Mike Durham). He should also be remembered for his great vintage orchestra Harlem.
I was also reminded that only Brian remains of the musicians in his photo.
