Reviewers wanted

Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Interested? then please get in touch. Contact details are on the blog. Look forward to hearing from you. Lance

Preview: Swinging into Blaydon with Classic Swing!

(Preview by Russell)

Tomorrow (Sunday) sees something a little different at the Black Bull. Blaydon Jazz Club presents seven piece outfit Classic Swing in an evening of swing era to GASbook material. Tommy Moran has been busy writing arrangements for the band and fans will be keen to hear what the veteran tenor saxophonist has come up with. Come to think of it, Moran's bandmates will be interested to know what awaits them!

Moran's frontline partners - Jim McBriarty and Neville Hartley - have been round the block a couple of times and won't be fazed by new-look charts. If anything they'll be energised by the challenge! McBriarty's alto sax and clarinet playing is in demand right across the north east jazz scene and trombonist Hartley's services are every bit as much sought after as at anytime during a long, distinguished career.

Classic Swing's engine room is guaranteed to be firing on all cylinders - Jeremy McMurray will be hotfooting it up the A19 from an early evening engagement in time for an eight o'clock start, all-action drummer Tommy Graham will attemp to rattle a few beer glasses and bassist Alan Rudd will, as always, be holding it altogether. And then there is vocalist Olive Rudd. Band singer Olive is a popular figure on the scene and it is to be hoped she will get her fair share of the action.

Classic Swing at the Black Bull is an eight o'clock start (that's half an hour later than usual), £7 payable on the door.
