This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Not dreaming of a White Christmas

It turns up every year - usually mid-December. However, this year it came early. The most schmaltzy movie of them all. Yes, I'm talking about White Christmas with Bing, Danny Kaye, Vera Ellen and Rosemary Clooney. The original, Holiday Inn with Fred Astaire rather than Danny Kaye, was much better - apart from one thing. The original didn't have Rosie singing Love, You Didn't Do Right By Me.

For me, this is one of the classic musical moments of the 1950s and a timely reminder that George Clooney's aunt could hold a song better than he could! 


Apart from Love, You Didn't Do Right By Me, Irving Berlin also supplied Sisters with its immortal line: Lord help the mister who comes between me and my sister and Lord help the sister who comes between me and my man!

Priceless!

Fortunately, you don't have to sit through the movie for one number, good old YouTube, as ever, is at hand.

And if you still aren't convinced that Ms Clooney should be up here then listen to her album, Blue Rose with the Ellington Band.
