This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Preview: A late night in Hexham (September 21)

This year's Hexham Abbey Festival of Music and Arts (September 19-22) includes a late night jazz concert in Queen's Hall Library. Late Night Jazz with Nikki Iles, Karen Sharp & Friends begins at 9:30pm on Saturday 21st. Pianist Iles and saxophonist Sharp share similarly impressive pedigrees having worked with many of the great names of British post-war jazz. Their 'friends' on this gig will be bassist Andrew Robb and drummer David Ingamells.

Guildhall graduate Robb (BBC Radio Scotland Young Jazz Musician of the Year 2009) has worked with a number of established names including Tim Garland and Tommy Smith and was heard recently in the region with Alan Benzie at the Jazz Co-op, Newcastle. Fellow Guildhall graduate Ingamells is a 'first call' category drummer including gigs with Tobie Carpenter, Kate Williams and local hero, Darlington's Matt Roberts.

For those travelling from/to Tyneside there is a late night train from Hexham departing at 11:25 arriving Newcastle at five minutes past midnight.
