The Things They Say!

This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Reviewers wanted

Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Gig Preview: The Tulip Connection @ Bar Tutsters, Bishop Auckland - Thursday, August 10

This one came in just after the landlord of Bar Tutsters had returned from his holidays. He feared the name, the Francis Tulip Quartet, might put his regulars off, so he renamed them the Tulip Connection.
Readers of BSH aren't put off by Quartets being called Quartets and this is the same group who've drawn rave responses at Newcastle’s Jazz Caff and the Jazz Co-op HQ at the Globe [picture] recently.
With drummer Matthew MacKellar heading off to Berklee in a week’s time, Francis heading back to Birmingham Conservatoire, bass ace Michael Dunlop going back to the Guildhall and Joel Brown back to - would you believe? – school, this will be your last chance to hear the band before Christmas.
