Maurice Summerfield sent me this excellent concert video of the Berklee Concert Jazz Orchestra. By 'coincidence' Maurice's grandson, Jonah Summerfield, is on drums. Jonah, who graduates in May drives the band along brilliantly and looks so cool - no one is going to say, "Not quite my tempo".
After the introductory waffle, there's some great playing and, like in our own backyard, great to know that so many young musicians are playing jazz. The trick is to get the ones who aren't playing to provide an audience. Having said that, the Jazz Café jams in Newcastle do have a young audience and, I gather, the Empty Shop gigs in Durham are far from empty so there is hope...
