Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Preview: NYJO @ Darlington

On Monday 4th July, Darlington welcomes the fantastic National Youth Jazz Orchestra (NYJO). This world famous band has been showcasing the country’s most talented young jazz musicians for over 50 years and this is the first time that NYJO will have performed in the town. Shaune Eland from Darlington Jazz Festival says, ‘this is a real coup for the town to have such a talented group of young musicians performing at Central Hall. The festival team have worked hard over the past five years to bring established jazz artists to stage and this is our biggest project to date. 
Musicians from Durham Music Service are excited to be performing alongside the band and this is the second instalment of a partnership for the County Big Band and NYJO – the first part being Sebastiaan De Krom directing and performing with Darlington’s young musicians at this year’s jazz festival in April and the final part being a workshop with NYJO Ambassadors led by Musical Director Mark Armstrong.’
Many of the UK’s most prolific jazz musicians have performed with NYJO, often becoming established stars whilst playing with the band. Alumni include Guy Barker, Dennis Rollins and Amy Winehouse to name just a few. 
The band tours regularly at venues in the UK, as well as in Europe, USA, Australia and New Zealand.  From a swinging rhythm section to incredibly talented soloists, this is a great opportunity to see the band in the North East. 
Durham County Youth Big Band will play in support. Doors are 6:45pm with music from 7pm.
