This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Preview - This Saturday (Tonight - June 4) @ Hoochie: The Legendary Lonnie Liston Smith Band!

Tonight at Hoochie sees the return visit by one of the jazz/soul legends - Lonnie Listen Smith. Two years back he took the Hoochies and the Coochies by storm and I'm sure this time around it will still be the hottest ticket in town.
Lonnie Listen has a pedigree few living legends can match (read more) and I'm proud to say his previous visit was reviewed by yours truly on BSH.

Saw him at a Caister Weekender when we were both 30 years younger. Expansions is one of THE seminal Jazz Funk records and a monster track. Ditto 'a chance for peace/ give peace a chance' and a couple of others I can't remember the title of - Sunburst?
Also played with Roland Kirk, Pharaoh Saunders and Miles so some pre-funk history there too.
