Submissions for review

Whilst we appreciate the many emails, texts, messages and other communications we receive requesting album/gig reviews on BSH, regrettably, we are unable to reply to all of them other than those we are able to answer with a positive response.
Similarly, CDs received by post will only be considered if accompanied by sufficient background material.
Finally, bear in mind that this is a jazz-based site when submitting your album.

Tonight @ The Proms

Tonight (August 28) tune-in to BBC 4 (7:30pm) for three hours and more of what promises to be a feast of jazz. Friday Night at the Proms: The Story of Swing (first broadcast live on Radio 3, August 11) does what it says on the tin. Clare Teal (pictured), Guy Barker and a cast of thousands swing the Albert Hall. The so-called ‘jazz diva’ label often attributed to legendary figures in the jazz world is examined in Queens of Jazz: the Joy and Pain of the Jazz Divas (BBC 4, 9:45pm) following the Proms concert.

I only saw part of this - highly interesting to see the classically trained musicians getting into the groove - some of the time at least. It just goes to show - what is that thing called swing - and how is it done? Guy Barker did a great job - and I saw our very own Alan Barnes!! Not that I heard his name mentioned at the end - or did I miss this?

I was a tad disappointed - possibly because of my familiarity with the originals - and I didn't think the RAH acoustics did them any favours.

once again Lance I do agree, even though I haven't yet seen it all, I was not wild about it. The acoustics were the same for the Sinatra show, not great...still it is good to see our genre of music recognised at the Proms

Bebop Spoken Here -- Here, being the north-east of England -- centred in the blues heartland of Newcastle and reaching down to the Tees Delta and looking upwards to the Land of the Kilt.
Not a very original title, I know; not even an accurate one as my taste, whilst centred around the music of Bird and Diz, extends in many directions and I listen to everything from King Oliver to Chick Corea and beyond. Not forgetting the Great American Songbook the contents of which has provided the inspiration for much great jazz and quality popular singing for round about a century.
The idea of this blog is for you to share your thoughts and pass on your comments on discs, gigs, jazz - music in general. If you've been to a gig/concert or heard a CD that knocked you sideways please share your views with us. Tell us about your favourites, your memories, your dislikes.
