This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Alice Graces the Jazz Café

A quick visit to the men’s room (two flights up).Returning to the bar, the line-up on the stand had changed somewhat, such is the nature of a jam session. Vocalist Debra Milne got up to sing with Rob Bates behind the kit. Ian Forbes didn’t hang around long (nowt new there!), Francesco and Tom were long gone, Bradley was heading for a last train.
The sitters-in done, the house band reassembled with Last Train Johnston and tenor man Paul Gowland to accompany Alice Grace. Yes, the fabulous Ms Grace was in the house! Just in Time, a scatterooney of a take on Joyspring, Kenny Wheeler’s Everybody’s Song But My Own and the late night confessional Blame It On My Youth. A jam session? This was worthy of the concert platform. Class.
