This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Reviewers wanted

Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. The Beeb Salutes International Women’s Day

Carmen McRae ushers in International Women’s Day (Sunday 8 March) at midnight Saturday as the featured artist on Geoffrey Smith’s Jazz (Radio3). Sunday, Radio 2, 9:00pm, Clare Teal talks to Joyce Terry, vocalist with Ivy Benson’s band in the ‘40s. Benson herself is the subject of Monday’s Sax Appeal: Ivy Benson’s All Girl Band on Radio 2, 10:00pm. Jamie Cullum (Tuesday, 7:00pm, Radio 2) celebrates the life of an icon.  In the centenary year of the birth of Billie Holiday, Cullum chats with Dee Dee Bridgewater and Gregory Porter. On Thursday’s edition of In Tune (Radio 3, 4:30pm) Sean Rafferty welcomes Zoe Rahman and Courtney Pine to play music from their new album ahead of dates across the country (inc. north east of England appearances in the Northumberland market town of Alnwick and Middlesbrough on Teesside).
