Previously, All
About Jazz wrote - "Lana
Trio succeeds in harnessing its challenging, experimental flights, and the
determined exploration of inventive new sounds and fresh forms of interplay
into a cohesive, tough, loose, structure that surprisingly sounds engaging and
accessible."
And at the Jazz Café this Norwegian trio provided aspects
of the ambient Sofa Jazz of many
contemporary Scandinavian artists coupled with the ferocious all-out-attack of
others with much focus on exploring the timbre of their individual instruments
whilst providing an overall enveloping soundscape. Yes, it was totally
engaging and quite accessible. Well done to Jazz North East & Schmazz
for taking yet another chance on an untried, and previously unknown
(on Tyneside), band. TIt undoubtedly adds to the international reputation of Jazz North East
and Schmazz. that they are offered - and accept - this kind of coup.Ken Drew Photos.
