This is a strange, 22 page, board book aimed at very young children. I personally think it's quite magnificent although I'm not sure what the children will make of it.
The subject matter ie Bird, Dizzy, Monk, Klook etc, are unlikely to mean much to the kids and, probably little more to all but the most jazz-enlightened of parents or teachers. Having said that, would I be expressing the same reservations had the "babies" been Beethoven, Bach, Handel or Mozart? I suppose not.
Whatever, Edward Allan Faine has to be commended for the presentation and the illustrations by Kristina Leahy Celich are first class.

Author Faine, who published his first, in his own words, jazz book for grown-ups, last year - Ellington at the White House 1969 - is publishing a follow up in January 2015 - The Best Gig in Town: Jazz at the White House 1969-1974. Maybe some day we'll get The Worst Gig in Town: Jazz at 10 Downing Street!
