Bebop Spoken There

Jools Holland (on his 2026 spring/summer tour): ''With the mighty [R&B] Orchestra, our wonderful boogie woogie singers, and the brilliant Joe Webb opening the shows [including Darlington Hippodrome, June 19], we're in for some very special evenings of music.'' The Northern Echo February 5, 2026

The Things They Say!

This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) North. (M & SSBB on F/book 23/12/24)

Reviewers wanted

Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Interested? then please get in touch. Contact details are on the blog. Look forward to hearing from you. Lance

Jason Isaacs - Singles, Spandau Ballet & travelling South...

After 10 years I finally did it – I finally found Jason a proper, bona fide management team – and boy have they been busy! Please welcome Karl, Steven and Chris from Melbury House Music, Giles from On The Rocks Music along with our new, fabulous and very well connected ‘pluggers’ Dylan and Neil.
With the fantastic backing of these industry professionals, we are releasing our first ever self-produced single, which is an upbeat cover of ‘Too Marvellous For Words’. As it will also be available as a physical CD and limited edition vinyl, you get Mr Bojangles as a bonus B side.
With a provisional release date of May 11, both are now available for pre-order at iTunes and Amazon at a set price of just £1.29 (click here). And once again we need your support. If everyone we know gets 4 others to buy it we are assured of chart movement. Let’s put the sophisticated face of Newcastle in the spotlight for a change.
In addition to the single, we have just completed the first leg of a UK tour – with upcoming shows in London, York and Liverpool to name but a few. A full list of these can be found here. Steve Norman, sax playing legend with Spandau Ballet, has very kindly agreed to guest with Jason in both our Newcastle City Hall (Sat May 10, 2014) and Beck Theatre Hayes / London( Friday July 11, 2014) shows, so that’s a real ‘battle of the saxes’ to look forward to! Tickets for these and all our shows can be purchased through our website (here) or by calling 07745 046 805.
For those of you living in and around Newcastle, there is also a selection of dinner dances to enjoy at some of our most beautiful venues. These include Horton Grange (May 9th) and Jesmond Dene House (July 24) but please check out others here.
With an album and more high profile gigs & collaborations in the pipeline, it looks like 2014 is going to be a great year for us and all our Jason Isaacs fans. We massively appreciate your ongoing support and undying enthusiasm.
We will be keeping you up to date with all the latest news and events, so if you would rather not receive these regular emails please unsubscribe below.
All that remains is to say have a fabulous Spring and we all look forward to welcoming you to a Jason Isaacs happening soon.
Sharon and team.
