Newcastle's Jazz Café is totally unique - What you see is what you get. That can vary from all to nothing and while, for a moment, the latter seemed to prevail it did finally erupt into life.
Paul Scott is no mean picker and he really wailed behind some on-screen blues players.that Keith was showing on the large screen as he hopefully awaited the arrival of an audience. If the Newcastle peeps knew what they were missing they'd have been queuing up for 24 hours!..
Ray Truscott showed with six-string bass guitar and we were off to some duo blows.
But not for long!
Martin flew in from Poland for this gig - well maybe not especially for this gig but he sat in on drums and the trio quickly gelled.
I Heard it on the Grapevine, Shine, I'll See You in my Dreams, All of Me revealed the guitarist to have a pleasing blues edged sixty a day voice.
The room filled up with various nationalities absorbing the ambience. They don't always get this in their own countries but they get it here and, oh yes, we even had a couple of Geordies in!
I can remember when all jazz clubs had this feel to it. You listen or you talk - if the music is good enough you listen...

At least it was the original Jazz Cafe good musicians. Who the hell gave the name to the Sage Jazz Cafe? what an insult to Keith who works his balls off to keep the Cafe going shame on who ever put forward jazz cafe Sage. Bad show Guys.
