The Things They Say!

This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Reviewers wanted

Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. CD Review - Gabriele Poso: Roots of Soul.


Roots of Soul is a new album by Italian multi-instrumentalist/composer Gabriele Poso just released on German label INFRAcom!. It's described as "a summery cocktail of latin jazz, afro-jazz and soul" a description I find it difficult to disagree with. As well as being a percussionist, composer, producer, arranger and mixer Poso  also finds time to host an internet radio program - the Genuine Radio Show. On Roots of Soul he is joined by  vocal guests: Osunlade, Nailah Porter and Tanya Michelle who add distinctive vocals alongside the instrumentals which include Dizzy's Tin Tin Deo. Not a disc to make one listen to intently with furrowed brow but one to play at the more sophisticated barbecue or al fresco gathering - it won't upset the neighbours and may help you get to know them! VIDEO 1 VIDEO 2
