This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) CD Review - Gabriele Poso: Roots of Soul.


Roots of Soul is a new album by Italian multi-instrumentalist/composer Gabriele Poso just released on German label INFRAcom!. It's described as "a summery cocktail of latin jazz, afro-jazz and soul" a description I find it difficult to disagree with. As well as being a percussionist, composer, producer, arranger and mixer Poso  also finds time to host an internet radio program - the Genuine Radio Show. On Roots of Soul he is joined by  vocal guests: Osunlade, Nailah Porter and Tanya Michelle who add distinctive vocals alongside the instrumentals which include Dizzy's Tin Tin Deo. Not a disc to make one listen to intently with furrowed brow but one to play at the more sophisticated barbecue or al fresco gathering - it won't upset the neighbours and may help you get to know them! VIDEO 1 VIDEO 2
