Two in concert performances of interest to the north east (and beyond) jazz audience over the next few days. On Monday night (12 March) on Jazz on 3 (11:00 pm) there is a duet performance by pianist Pat Thomas and saxophonist Steve Williamson. The duo can be heard at this year's Gateshead International Jazz Festival with Orphy Robinson as Blacktop (Sunday 25 March). Twenty four hours earlier on Sunday 11 March on Jazz Line-Up three musicians soon to be heard at a Jazz North East promotion at the Lit & Phil (Kit Downes Quintet, 12 April) were recorded at King's Place, London. Kit Downes (piano & Hammond), James Maddren (drums) and cellist Lucy Railton perform with drummer and former Newcastle College music student Seb Rochford. Rochford won't be playing the Newcastle gig but it hardly matters as Maddren is a top class player in his own right. James Allsopp (reeds) and Calum Gourlay (bass) will be there on the night.
Russell.
