This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Reviewers wanted

Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Arts Council Swings The Axe - Again

The Arts Council, in its wisdom - or lack of  - has swung one of its many axes in the direction of the popular free magazine JazzUK causing it to be reduced from 64pp to 32pp as of the next issue (No.104) due out on April 1.
Presumably the powers that be consider a small, free, jazz magazine to be inconsequential - after all Editor Roger Thomas hasn't been involved in any phone hacking scandals so he and his magazine can hardly be worth the small subsidy - or so these men in suits must think.
The unfortunate thing is that this comes less than a year after the swingeing cuts to Jazz UK's parent organisation, Jazz Services.
Be interesting to find out what cuts have been applied to other art forms...
