Bebop Spoken There

John Pizzarelli: "There were three shows I saw at the Brendan Byrne Arena that had a huge impact on my storytelling. They were Frank Sinatra, Billy Joel and Bruce Springsteen. I loved the way that they had something to say about the songs they were singing, so I began to develop stories for my act." - (Hot House Jazz Guide February 2021)

Tonight at Gateshead Old Town Hall - Reincarnation of a Love Bird

Tonights concert at Gateshead Old Town Hall promises to be one of those unmissable ones. Indeed anything Mingus related has to be something special and Arnie Somogyi's SCENES IN THE CITY is no exception.
With a stellar line-up comprising Alan Barnes, Karen Sharp (saxes), Jeremy Price (tmb), Mark Edwards (pno), Arnie Somogyi (bs) and Clark Tracey (dms) you know the sparks are going to fly.
Mingus' music at times created melodic textures as rich and as full as Ellington's as well as futuristic strides into the unknown.
You've just got to be there in fact you'd better git it in your soul as well as on your agenda for this evening.
Lance.
