Roly Veitch (pictured), always a popular musician at our club, joined the group following the sudden death of Paul Gamblin Ruth's regular guitarist.
Ashington Jazz Club sends condolences to Paul's family.
We enjoyed a relaxing evening of cool and sympathetic interpretations of many standard songs. Ably supported by Neil Harland (bass) and Graeme Wilson (sax}.with Roly holding the rhythm together Ruth presented a selection of great lyrics delivered in her accomplished style. Since her first visit to the Club she has achieved confidence and presence on stage with great voice and mike control. All musicians had obvious empathy with the melodies and our audience listened appreciatively to excellent performances enjoying the ambience of a small night club atmosphere.
We shall look forward to her next visit and hope we can find a date within her busy schedule.
Programme: But Not for Me, Body and Soul, No Moon At All, S'Wonderful, I Love You, I should Care, Autumn Leaves, Squeeze Me, Long Ago and Far Away, But Beautiful, Gone With the Wind, Shadow of Your Smile, All of Me, Angel Eyes, There Will Never Be Another You.
