The Things They Say!

This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Sunday night @ the Globe: JazzMain - April 14

Last week was sold out. Next week is sold out so the smart money would have been down for a similar scenario this week. However, to misquote and degenderize Guiseppi Verdi - 'La donna (lee?) è mobile' - in other the words the jazz community is fickle and, this week, audience numbers were less than anticipated. Where, I wondered, were all the shareholders? Maybe they were at Rigoletto's!

Nevertheless, those who did make the trip to hear a band who  themselves had made the 105.4 miles trip down from Edinburgh were well rewarded.

Straight down the middle tough tenor playing backed by three of Scotland's finest. Swingers, bossas, ballads, funky grooves, who could ask for anything more? 

So what did we hear?: Out of Nowhere; Joy Spring; Darn That Dream; O Grande Amor; Afterburner; A Night in Tunisia; Mamacita; You Don't Know What Love is; All Blues; Cinnamon and Clove; Cold Duck Time; Spring Can Really Hang You up the Most; Liberated Brother.
