This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. International Jazz Day @ the Globe - tonight from 5:30pm.

It's April 30 which means that it is International Jazz Day that day when cities and countries around the globe and at the Globe if you live in and around Newcastle celebrate  the music. This in itself is also a significant day for the Globe and the Jazz Co.op, the cooperative which actually bought the pub ten years ago and turned it into the successful jazz venue that it is today. 

To be honest the media have been less than supportive of IJD  although rumour does have it that for this one day only, the  Prime Minister is going to send migrants to New Orleans rather than Rwanda. The general public however, have shown their enthusiasm for the music well in advance with brolly parades being spotted on the high street on an almost daily basis for most of the year.

Tonight that celebration (hopefully without the brollies) will draw to a triumphant close with a buffet and drinks reception from 5:30pm and a ticketed concert by the Clark Tracey Quintet at 8:00pm. It promises to be quite a night. Lance

Ps: It is also Pam Young's birthday today. Pam couldn't have been born on a more appropriate date! We wish her a happy and jazzy birthday.
