This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Double album review: Mal Waldron, Steve Lacy - The Mighty Warriors

Another Record Store Day (April 20) release of a previously unreleased live album discovered and produced by Zev Feldman. 

Four forward thinkers of the time who, although stretching boundaries never totally turned their backs on the power of melody thus we have a couple of  pieces by Monk along with Waldron's own compositions and one each from Lacy and Workman.

Recorded live at the DeSingel Artist Center in Antwerp, Belgium on Sept. 30, 1995 there are some compelling moments from all four at different times but rarely as a unit.

There's going to be a lot of expensive jazz vinyl out there on RSD 2024 and quite a number that have me drooling and consulting with my bank manager but, for me, this isn't one of them although I know at least 20 others who will be queuing up from the break of dawn - providing they can find a record store with it waiting to be bought. If you can hang on for a further six days (April 26) you can pick it up cheaper as a digi or a double CD HERE. Lance
