We at BSH didn't manage to play everything on the old Victrola. We missed out on the 3 LP set by Art Tatum at the Blue Note which, by all accounts, was something to truly savour. Still, much as I love the music of Art, six sides of Tatum playing standards might have been a middle eight too far (bridge/middle eight get it?).

Sun Ra – At the Showcase: Live in Chicago 1976-1977
So there we have it. All, well most, are live albums where you're hearing these bands at their absolute best. Now I have to confess, all my review copies were on CD and they sound great although they don't become available until a week or two after the LP issues.
The latest edition of Jazzwise which I can now read thanks to a visit to Specsavers has an interesting letter on the subject of vinyl v CD during the course of which the writer, quotes our own Steve Tulip on the subject. He presents a balanced view looking at both sides. To each his own.
The same magazine also has an interview with Michael Lamb re Strictly Smokin's forthcoming CD release which BSH reviewed HERE. It isn't on vinyl but it's going to be up there as one of the albums of the year irrespective of format. Lance
