A week tonight (Mon 12 Dec) the Central Bar Quintet will be playing Kind of Blue! One of the most famous albums of all time, it begs the question: How often has the landmark recording been performed either side of the Atlantic? The Central Bar Quintet's forthcoming recreation of Miles Davis and co is likely to be a first here on Tyneside. The rhythm section - Alan Law, Mick Shoulder and John Bradford - will be joined for the occasion by Sue Ferris (Cannonball and Trane) and Pete Tanton as Miles. 7:30pm start, a fiver at the door (free to those participating in the jam session which follows the Kind of Blue album set). I have a ticket for a performance by Terry Seabrook's band Milestones (with Alan Barnes among others) playing Kind of Blue at Saltburn Arts in March 2012. Did they also play in Gateshead or Newcastle on that tour?
They played Gateshead Old Town Hall on January 15, 2011. Although Kind of Blue featured predominantly in the programme I seem to recall that there were also Milesian moments from other albums.
Peter, I'd completely forgotten about the Gateshead Old Town Hall gig! It was a Jazz North East promotion and the room was full to bursting. Hopefully Gateshead's Central Bar will be standing room only.
