This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Meanwhile, way out east ...

Colin Aitchison, our man in Hong Kong, kindly sent me this update on the goings on in Ashley Rd...

"This month, on December 18, it will be the 50th Anniversary of Ned Kelly's Last Stand in Hong Kong. It is the oldest pub in it's original position at 11a Ashley Rd and is the longest running live music jazz bar in Hong Kong with a resident band and many guests who have graced the stage over the years. the only interruption being Covid 19 (no live music but open for business). Ned's opened on, December, 18, 1972.

If you are out and about in Kowloon, we have two dates for your diary to help us celebrate the 50 years. Saturday, December 17: Colin Aitchison & The China Coast Jazzmen with guests  (9-30pm - 1-00am) & Sunday, December 18: The Ned Kelly's 17 piece Xmas Big Band (6-30pm - 9-30pm). The last big band session we did was in May. 2019. I hope to see some of you at Ned's for this historic occasion." Colin
