This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Sue Mingus (April 2, 1930 - Sept. 24, 2022)

Behind every great man there's a woman or - so the legend would have it. In the case of the great American bassist/composer/bandleader Charles Mingus that was most certainly true which makes the passing of Sue Mingus all the more heartfelt.

Her relationship with Charles Mingus, particularly during his latter years, are told without gloss in her book Tonight At Noon - A Love Story.

Nor did it end with his death. Sue Graham Mingus, to give her her full title, ensured his memory lived on in the form of the Mingus Band who I was blessed to hear at Sage Gateshead in 2007 and in 2018 at Ronnie's and at Middlesbrough Town Hall. All magnificent occasions and all made possible by Sue's dedication to preserving his legacy, his music and their love.

Well said! The Mingus Big Band is resident Mondays in NYC. The Django, in Lower Manhattan, presents two shows every Monday night. $25 plus a two drink minimum. Next time you're in the Big Apple...
