This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Reviewers wanted

Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Preview: Terence Blanchard's Opera on 3 (Today)

In 2019 one-time Jazz Messenger Terence Blanchard premiered his opera Fire Shut Up in My Bones at the Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, Missouri. Black American composers had been overlooked by New York's Metropolitan Opera House until trumpeter Blanchard's work opened the institution's 2021-2022 season. Today (Saturday 8) Opera on 3 from the Met (Radio 3, 6:30pm) presents a repeat of a performance first broadcast from the Met in October 2021. The programme is typically Radio 3 in length - all three hours and twenty nine minutes of it! And why not?!  Russell
