This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Lennie Tristano - Personal Recordings 1946 - 1970 (disc 5/6)

They just get better! With one disc to go the man's magic just grows and grows. Why haven't I been shouting his name from the rooftops since I first heard him on record back when I was a callow youth? Possibly his music was ahead of me then. Well I've caught up with it since and, just as I spent all those years not reading Schopenhauer and listening to Terry Lightfoot instead, the truth has finally dawned and with it the injustice of anyone, myself included, who failed to recognise Lennie Tristano's true genius.

I've just received a review request from a PR person who describes his client as "an accomplished trekker in the footsteps of the likes of Keith Jarrett, Herbie Hancock, Monk, Oscar Peterson and other piano giants."

I don't know about that, compared to Tristano I would relegate the above names to the other piano giants category!

As a matter of further information, the sound is near-acceptable on this one - Lance
