This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Tonight at the Globe it's HAPPINESS AND HEARTBREAK

HAPPINESS AND HEARTBREAK return to The Globe with a selection of classic swinging tunes and heart breaking gems from the Great American Songbook, featuring vocalist Debra Milne, with Stuart Collingwood on keyboard and Steve Summers on saxes.

Vocalist Debra Milne is well established in the north east jazz scene as a distinctive interpreter of jazz standards, although more recently, until the pandemic intervened, she was gaining wider recognition for her original material featured in the Milne Glendinning Band. Previously Debra has performed with and led a number of ensembles, notably Jazz Latin Groove which also featured Steve Summers.
Stuart Collingwood is a highly respected pianist with more than 4 decades of experience in a wide range of genres, in particular jazz. Since 2019 he has been touring with Snake Davis.
Steve Summers has played lead alto in the fantastic Newcastle based Strictly Smokin’ Big Band for several years. In the trio format he plays mainly tenor, but he may also take the opportunity to play soprano or baritone sax, or to pull out a range of percussion instruments from his voluminous instrument bag!
