This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Adrian Cox's Sunday Service with Joe Webb - July 25

Minutes into this afternoon's Sunday Service, Adrian Cox's online congregation hit one hundred! Clearly clarinetist Cox is a hugely popular figure on the scene and, what's more, this week there was the added attraction of Joe Webb playing some rollicking good piano! 

As ever, it was one highlight after another. Old Fashioned Love taken at an unbearably slow tempo risked bringing a tear to Adrian's eye as he sang Cecil Mack's lyrics to James P Johnson's tune. 'Deed I Do taken at Keith Nichols' favoured 'tear-arse' tempo had to be heard to be believed - Joe simply sensational! 

Next week Adrian will be joined by guitarist Dave Archer and bassist Will Sach. Ah, yes...Dave, Will and Joe will be at the Lit & Phil in Newcastle on Friday 20 August (1:00pm) playing the music of Art Tatum!
