This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Dropping in on Rossano & Harry - Mar. 21

Live at the Flat in Greenwich Village, #25. Yes, Rossano Sportiello's twenty fifth weekly live stream, this week with mainstream tenor saxophonist Harry Allen. Your reviewer dropped by having been elsewhere (Ronnie Scott's, virtually, of course), in time to hear our duo playing A Cottage for Sale. 

The online audience included one of Sportiello's students based in, of all places, Milton Keynes! Roy, a friend of our live streamers, requested they play Somewhere Over the Rainbow, which they duly did. Allen said he played at Roy and Melissa's wedding, quipping: They're still married! 

Our duo negotiated a swift rhythm changes workout without breaking sweat. Most impressive! Time for a ballad, a commissioned piece, no less, which Sportiello wrote for a friend, no doubt earning him a few bucks. Sportiello's elegant left hand stride patterns enhanced Cole Porter's You Do Something for Me and the NYC-resident Italian's solo piano feature on Body and Soul oozed class. Running over time, Sportiello and Allen said goodbye with Just in Time. It had been an enjoyable three quarters of an hour or so. More next week at ten o'clock BST.
