Bebop Spoken There

Lew Shaw (Syncopated Times' columnist): "My interest [at 95] is in classic jazz. The numbers aren't what they were 40 years ago, but I'm encouraged by the number of young musicians playing that style and the young audiences they attract." - (The Syncopated Times January 2021)

The Things They Say!

Hudson Music: Lance's "Bebop Spoken Here" is one of the heaviest and most influential jazz blogs in the UK.

Rupert Burley (Dynamic Agency): "BSH just goes from strength to strength".

Jazz in Jesmond and Japan

The February edition of DownBeat gives the rundown on 25 of the world's top jazz cities. Not surprisingly, New York is top with London the only UK city mentioned. Amazingly, Tokyo offers more than 100 jazz gigs nightly!

One of the 'unique offerings' of The Shinjuku Pit Inn is afternoon sets for a post-lunch crowd that hungers for live jazz.

Ah, so!

Well the good news is that you don't have to go to Tokyo for your afternoon fix. Various venues in and around Tyneside and Co. Durham have lunchtime sessions. Monday to Sunday there's usually at least one and you don't have to eat sushi or drink sake.

This coming Friday sees a new/old venue presenting lunchtime gigs (first & third Fridays) at the Royal British Legion Club, 3 West Jesmond Avenue, NE2 3EX, (2 mins walk from West Jesmond Metro) featuring Classic Swing. The band, which already plays a lunchtime gig at the Ship Inn, Monkseaton, on Tuesdays are hoping this new venture will be a successful one. The Legion has, in the past, played host to, among others, the Maine St. Jazzmen and the River City Jazzmen. Dates so far inked in are Feb. 1 & 15 and March 1 & 15.
Worth supporting,
Lance
