This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Update on the 2019 Mike Durham's International Classic Jazz Party.

The Alka Seltzers and the 40 cups of black coffee had only just completed their medicinal therapy when the news of the 2019 jazz orgy aka Mike Durham's Classic Jazz Party broke.

Fortunately, the survivors of this year's bash have close on 11 months and a bit to get in training for next year's classic jazz extravaganza to be held, once again, at the Village Hotel over the weekend of November 1-3.  I'm sorry Mr. Fawkes (Guy, not Wally) but we're letting our fireworks off a few days before yours.

The list of musicians confirmed includes most of the usual suspects as well as a few of the newer guys - if it ain't broke etc... The themes, which are always the most intriguing aspect of the party are yet to be announced but you can bet your autographed cylinder of Buddy Boldon (not to be confused with Buddy Bolden) against a recording of Freddy Shepherd whose voice, it is rumoured, could be heard, on a clear day, across the lake at Leazes Park, that they will be an intriguing take on some of the lesser known, but no less worthy bands that flourished between the two world wars.
