This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Reviewers wanted

Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Jam today, jam tomorrow and jam the day after...

This evening (Tuesday 7) sees the first of four jam sessions in three days across Tyne and Wear. The high-quality Jazz Café jam session on Pink Lane (see photo) signs off tonight as the venue closes for its annual summer break. The students aren't around - just wait 'til next month, new names are sure to emerge - but don't let that put you off as some seriously talented musicians will be keen to have a blow. 
Tomorrow, what to do? Dave Weisser's long-running 'workshop' (think Mingus!) is on, come rain, come shine, at the Globe. It's anyone's guess who'll turn up, perhaps drummer Matthew Fairhirst, home for the summer, will help out DW. Then, over in Brandling Park, Jesmond, at the Dun Cow, the fortnightly jam session (see poster) appears to be inking itself into the oh-so-busy jazz calendar. And on Thursday at the Fire Station (see photo) on High Street West (next to the Empire Theatre) in Sunderland it's the weekly Jazz Jam hosted by the Stu Collingwood Trio. Sitters-in are positively welcome, as indeed they are at all of the sessions. So, you've no excuse, it's a toss a coin. All start at eight o'clock, go for it!
