The legendary New Orleans clarinettist, Pete Fountain, died in his hometown on August 6. A prolific recording artist he wasn't confined to any one genre as stints with Al Hirt and Lawrence Welk indicate. Often disparaged for his commercial success - t'were ever so - Fountain was, nevertheless, a fine clarinet player very much inspired by Irving Fazola. His bands invariably played happy sounding Dixieland.Pete Fountain was 86.
May he Rest In Peace.
Obituary.
Lance.
