This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) RIP Louis Stewart

Just heard the sad news that Irish guitarist Louis Stewart died earlier today aged 72.
Probably Ireland's greatest ever jazz guitarist Louis Stewart was world class and I have fond memories of hearing him at Newcastle's Corner House in 1981.

I'm remembering a brilliant Radio 3 jazz session quite a few years back, maybe the 1980s. It was a quartet featuring Louis and pianist John Taylor. Both now gone.
