This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Christmas comes but twice a year - It could only happen in America!

My dear friend Lydia Diel, out there in New Jersey, sent me this brief report on a gig by the Ocean Grove Summer Band that she'd went to last Thursday at  the Ocean Grove Pavilion on the Jersey Shore. 
Sounds like it was a hoot!
Let Lydia tell it:
Despite the 90 degrees August weather, the band had decided on a Christmas programme!!  They were so good and blended two carols together to make a jazzy sound.  There were not only carols but can you imagine Greensleeves being jazzed up like these guys did?
There was a disturbance towards the end when a fire engine with all its sirens blaring came screaming along the waterfront and stopped right outside the open air pavilion.  Everyone was so afraid there was another fire (so many just now because of the hot weather) and stood up wondering what was happening.
SANTA CLAUS JUMPED OUT AND ROLLED DOWN AMONG THE CROWDS THROWING CHRISTMAS CANDY OUT!!    It was so unbelievable and funny.
Didn't seem to make it any cooler though!
