Bebop Spoken There

Ludovic Beier (Django Festival Allstars): ''Manouche means 'free man,' and gypsies have been travelers since they migrated west from India to Europe.'' (DownBeat March, 2026)

The Things They Say!

This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) North. (M & SSBB on F/book 23/12/24)

Reviewers wanted

Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Interested? then please get in touch. Contact details are on the blog. Look forward to hearing from you. Lance

Zoe for London Jazz Festival.

(Preview by Steve T/Photo courtesy of Ken Drew )
Last year it was the face of Emma Fisk beaming up at you from the EFG website and this year it's another of our leading ladies, strawberry-blond bombshell Zoe Gilby, accompanied purely coincidentally by our very own innovative bass blaster Andy Champion.
Her natural warmth and charisma, not to mention a healthy dose of North East charm, and very much the classier end of the scale, ensure she's perfect for hosting a kids’ event in the Capital. The sessions are for age 5+ and are always popular and amongst the first to sell out each year and I know they'll both be fabulous.
Tickets are on sale from 10am on Friday 8th July priced £5 - £10.
The performance is at Cadogan Hall on Saturday November 12th from 2pm to 3pm.
Here’s what the EFG publicity machine has to say:
Saturday 12 November, Cadogan Hall – 2pm matinee
A sell-out triumph in previous years, this year’s Family Jazz All-Stars showcases the stunning vocals of Zoe Gilby in an unmissable and friendly show for all the family.
Zoe lends her captivating style to this fun-filled tribute to jazz singers past and present, sharing the stage with a line-up of highly accomplished jazz musicians.
Including songs from jazz down the years, as well as her distinctive take on popular classics, this promises to be perfect for all the family, from children to grandparents. So bring the whole clan and enjoy an energetic whistle-stop journey through jazz like no other!

London? A local gig for these two - End of this month they're booked to play at the Roland Jazz Festival in Romania - hopefully before Article 50 is brought into play!
