The Things They Say!

This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Reviewers wanted

Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Judd or Jurd? That is the Question!

One of our site visitors has queried our review of the recent gig at Sage Gateshead by Laura Jurd, pointing out that there are numerous references to her as Judd on Google (that infinite font of wisdom) conceding that, at the same time, Jurd is also well represented in the cyberspace crystal ball.
Several sources were quoted including these two: "Laura Judd is a London based trumpet player, composer and improviser who is making enormous waves on the British jazz scene. She won the prestigious Dankworth prize for composition at just 19, and at the age of 21 was the first woman in nearly 20 years to take the Worshipful Company of Musicians' Jazz Award." We need to know the truth! What isn't in doubt is that the girl, sorry, person, can play trumpet!
We don't care if you are Judd or Jurd, Smith or Smythe just keep on blowing!
It could be down to accent i.e. If Laura's from up north, Jurd could sound like Judd whereas, if she's from doon sooth, Judd could sound like Jurd!
