One of our site visitors has queried our review of the recent gig at Sage Gateshead by Laura
Jurd, pointing out that there are numerous references to her as
Judd on Google (that infinite font of wisdom) conceding that, at the same time,
Jurd is also well represented in the cyberspace crystal ball.
Several sources were quoted including these two: "Laura Judd is a London based trumpet player, composer and improviser who is making enormous waves on the British jazz scene. She won the prestigious Dankworth prize for composition at just 19, and at the age of 21 was the first woman in nearly 20 years to take the Worshipful Company of Musicians' Jazz Award." Jazz Café [Camden Town]
"Sophisticated and technically awesome...delivered with the assurance of a budding trumpet-improv original." John Fordham, The Guardian.
We need to know the truth! What isn't in doubt is that the girl, sorry, person, can play trumpet!
We don't care if you are Judd or Jurd, Smith or Smythe just keep on blowing!
It could be down to accent i.e. If Laura's from up north, Jurd could sound like Judd whereas, if she's from doon sooth, Judd could sound like Jurd!
