There were other early albums I acquired and enjoyed: Celebration, Marching Songs etc. then our paths began to differ.
Westbrook moved on, I moved on, but at a slower pace.
Until now!
We're together again!
This is an album, a live album so awesome that it's far beyond my descriptive powers.
Think of Sun Ra or Mingus and The Black Saint and Sinner Lady and you're in the ball park - or rather the theatre. For this is music theatre of the highest level and Westbrook is a composer who, had he been born in Washington DC, New York City or the west coast of America rather than the south west of England, would surely have been given a Ducal title as opposed to his UK OBE. This is such an amazing album - straddles just about every genre known! I'm not going to attempt to single out individuals or even tracks,
This is a Festival must - are you listening Ros [Rigby]?
Mike Westbrook's 80 and I'm not that far behind him so it would be in both Mike and myself's interests to get him up here sooner rather than later.
Quite an album!
My only crit is the the title - A Bigger Show - Live.
Suggest replacing 'A Bigger' with 'The Biggest'.
