I don't get too many review CDs from Belgium - in fact this may be the first! I viewed it with a little suspicion. Often discs from mainland Europe exceed my comfort zone. However, whilst this one occasionally pushes that zone to within sight of the limit it remains more or less inside it.
All four musicians are firmly entrenched in the contemporary edge of modern jazz although only rarely do they touch on the cutting edge preferring instead to play original compositions by Dehaye, Lourtie and Heiderscheidt in an acceptable - to this reviewer - manner. If such a genre exists as Chamber Contemporary Jazz then this is it.

Lourtie has a good sax sound on both tenor and soprano, terse probing phrases with spaces. Dehaye revives that almost extinct beast the Fender Rhodes, deploying its unique sounds effectively. Bass and drums add their individuality to the mix.
This won't be much help to Belgium buyers but if the band were based in the North East of England they could be either Splinter or Schmazz material .
