This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Gateshead International Jazz Festival 2013 Preview

The 2013 Gateshead International Jazz Festival marks something of a departure for the late night jam session. For the first time it is being held across the Tyne in Newcastle. So, concert goers at the Sage will need to make their way over to Hoochie Coochie on Pilgrim Street. Walk over the Tyne Bridge, keep on going and you will pass the front door - STOP! Go in, pay on the door and enjoy the vibe. Warren, the proprietor of this stylish venue, is sure to give you a warm welcome. He loves his music (he is a Soul Man) and knows good jazz when he hears it. He has given unstinting support to the local jazz scene and it is good to see Hoochie Coochie associated with the big jazz bash at the Sage. The opening night features Soweto Kinch. It is likely that some free-style rapping will be going down, Kinch’s alto is sure to be at hand, DJs will be doing their thing and you can order a cocktail or open a bottle of London Pride, sit back and relax or get up and dance. Hey! This is Hoochie Coochie!
