This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Maine Streeting @ Rosie's.

Herbie Hudson (tmb/hca/vcl); Jim McBriarty (clt/vcl); George Richardson (pno); Alan Rudd (bs); Mike Humble (dms); Olive Rudd (vcl).
No Ray Harley this week which is always a downer albeit with no disrespect to the other guys but,Ray does give the band that vital lift. Methinks that when Ray - or any trumpet is missing - they should use Olive more. In fact whether trumpet is there or not they should us Olive more - and 'oil second that' said the pseudo Irishman next to me!
Having said all that, the band played great with Jim (pictured) doing his now, almost legendary, version of Gonna Get a Girl.
George Richardson, again on piano, kept things modernish and he and Herbie duoed delightfully on Stardust. Herbie, on harmonica not only played the melody but also the verse. Alan kept up with the changes on bass and Mike was subtle and subdued giving just the right feel to the number.
As for our gal Ol - Gone With The Wind simply floated and I Double Dare You (to tell me anuyone who does it better!) swung.
Another lazy, hazy afternoon - Blaydon tonight.
