This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Jamie McCredie Quartet to Play Oxford Jazz Festival

Not exactly on Tyneside I know but the Oxford Jazz Festival which runs over the Easter Weekend starting Thursday April 21 and ending on Sunday April 24 does have a north-east connection.
I'm referring to former Extreme Measures' guitarist Jamie McCredie who on the Sunday (April 24) can be heard in concert with his own band the Jamie McCredie Quartet.
Other highlights include Soweto Kinch who wowed every one who attended his concert at The Sage, Gateshead, on Friday night; Norma Winstone, Kit Downes, the Bobby Wellins' Quartet and many many more.

Discounts available if you're looking to come for the whole weekend and buy oodles of tickets! Some incredible performances this year - Jamie played a sneak preview on Tuesday night at The Big Bang's Jazz Cellar, along with Steve Smith on Bass and Linley-Anne Weir - a sublime performance, fusing Jazz and at times blues with some searing and stunning string work!
